Minden belongs to the statistical urban area of Minden, which is the second largest metropolitan region in the state of Louisiana after Baton Rouge. According to the US Census Bureau, the city of about 2,000 people behaved as if it were land and water.

Minden itself was founded in 1836 by a native of Schenectady, New York, and named after the city of Minden in Germany. The last home of the colony was Mindens, which was later founded in 1835 and 1837 by Charles Veeder from New York, whose family roots were in Germany, and later by his brother-in-law, the German Charles. A group called the New Philadelphia Congregation erected many impressive brick buildings on the site, which is now the city of Monaca, Pennsylvania. In 1834, two years after Veedser's arrival, another group from Phillipsburg (now Monaco in Pennsylvania), led by Countess Leon, settled in what was then the community of Claiborne, about a mile from the original settlement.

I will start with a copy of an article about Minden's past that was brought to my attention by a friend, Dr. John Sc Helley, a historian and historian at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
